Jasper Krabbé (1970, Amsterdam) studied at the Gerrit Rietveld Academy in Amsterdam (1989-1992) and Cooper Union in New York (1992-1993). His
work has been added to the collections of the Stedelijk Museum Amsterdam and the Nederlandsche Bank, among others. Additionally, Krabbé has had very
successful exhibitions in national and international museums and galleries.
“These works have been painted in a mixture of
techniques on the back of (old) wallpaper. I chose
this because it absorbs the paint more than canvas
and allows for a smoother mat finish. I glue the
paper onto the canvas so that the picture gets more
body, but still maintains the vulnerability of the
paper.”
Jasper Krabbé:
“In this work I wanted to portray the bond of trust between father and child and to see the world through their eyes. The figures in the background symbolize various stages of adolescence and adulthood. While the figure on the left is still trying to find his way, the figure in the upper-right side is setting his sights on something new. The small painting can be read as designating the position; a magnified image of the house that comes back in the larger work in an abstract form.”
